ABOUT Dr. Zap
Adrien M. Zap, MS, DVM,
CVA, CERPV, CVMMP, CVCHM
Dr. Adrien M. Zap grew up in Ridgefield, CT, graduating from Ridgefield High School. She received her undergraduate degree in Pathobiology and Veterinary Sciences, with a minor in Molecular and Cellular Biology, from the University of Connecticut (Go Huskies!). She obtained a Masters degree in Forensic Toxicology from the University of Florida before attending veterinary school at St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies. After three years in Grenada, she returned to the USA to complete her clinical training year at the University of Georgia.
After several years in practice, Dr. Zap felt compelled to provide better, more thorough, personalized care for her patients. This desire inspired her to seek out additional education and training in veterinary acupuncture, food therapy, medical manipulation (chiropractic), herbal medicine, rehabilitation and holistic modalities. With this wealth of knowledge and a desire to provide the best care for all animals, Integrative Veterinary Care was established in 2019.
Being a mobile/ambulatory veterinarian allows Dr. Zap the opportunity to reach more animals in need – from family pets, shelter and rescue animals, equine athletes, zoo collections and wildlife around the world. Integrative Veterinary Care is proud to work with local animal rescue groups and wildlife rehabilitation centers to provide holistic veterinary care to all animals in need.
Dr. Zap is a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA) – with a dual certification in both Small and Large Animal Acupuncture – through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS). She also successfully completed Advanced Training in Equine Acupuncture at Chi University in Reddick, FL. She holds a Certification in Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine (CVCHM) by the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies (CIVT) and IVAS.
In 2021, Dr. Zap received her certification in Equine Rehabilitation & Performance Medicine (CERPV) from the Integrative Veterinary Medicine Institute at Chi University in Reddick, Florida. The following year, she successfully gained certification in Veterinary Medical Manipulation (CVMMP) from the Integrative Veterinary Medicine Institute. This is the veterinary equivalent of human chiropractic, and allows Dr. Zap to provide spinal manipulation/chiropractic care to her equine and large animal patients. She has a particular interest in equine sports medicine, and using integrative therapies to keep elite equine athletes at peak performance and optimal, balanced wellness.
Several times a year, Dr. Zap goes on “spay-cations” with veterinary colleagues to donate spay/neuter surgeries and other veterinary services to pets in need around the globe! Since 2010, Dr. Zap has traveled with World Vets to Nicaragua, Haiti, Ecuador and the Galapagos, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Japan to provide veterinary services to animals in need. In 2023, she also started volunteering with Veterinarians for Puerto Rico – performing much needed surgeries to dogs and cats on the island.
In 2016, Dr. Zap returned to her hometown of Ridgefield, CT, and currently shares her home with a rescued pitbull named Enzo, two marginated tortoises (Harry & Henry), a snake named Monty, and several goldfish. She is also the proud owner of a Dutch warmblood horse named Topaz (who turns 30 years old in 2024!) Dr. Zap is a third generation beekeeper, and tends to several hives of honeybees on her property. She enjoys volunteering, traveling, learning foreign languages, martial arts, running, riding horses, playing polo, and practicing yoga.
